Karlene is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A) and a Licensed Alcohol and Addiction Counselor (LCSW). She has experience providing individual and group psychotherapy for adults and teens in Inpatient and Outpatient settings. She has worked as a clinician at Recovery Counseling Services in Bridgeport, Positive Directions and has also worked with court services to assess clients for substance abuse disorders and make appropriate recommendations for treatment.
Karlene specializes working with adolescents and adults struggling with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), grief, traumas, and substance abuse. She has a Masters degrees from the University of Bridgeport in Clinical Counseling.
Karlene uses several therapeutic modalities to support and guide the clients toward goals. With Cognitive Beharioval Therapy (CBT) she helps client's challenge difficult and irrational thoughts. Using Narrative Therapy she allows clients to explore the stories they are telling themselves and create healthier, truer narratives. With motivational interviewing she allows clients to explore risks and benefits to their substance use or compulsive behaviors in a supportive, client-centered way.
Karlene offers her clients a supportive and collaborative environment to work on their goals and achieve a healthier lives. She may also be a good fit for clients who want to incorporate spirituality into their therapeutic work as Karlene has a Doctorate in Theology and serves asa Senior Pastor for a local ministry.
